How to Practice Loving-Kindness Meditation

Daniel Larriu

Sit criss cross applesauce
Straight back, eyes closed

The inner realm seems messy
But it’s just like a lake

Sometimes stormy
Or calm

Sometimes cold
Or warm

Observe your breath
It’s like a waterfall

Always flowing
Always in motion

Your mind is probably excited
Picture it as a young child

Don’t react
Simply smile and watch

When the water seems clear
Thank yourself for being here

Welcome the bubbles in your chest
Immerse in the river of your being

Remember that a**hole?
The one that screamed at you five years ago

Who do you think you are?
You’re the one that hit my car

I bet you treat people like that
Because you were bullied by your dad

Back to the breath!
Back to the calm

Thoughts will arise
They crave your attention

And want to swarm you
Like bugs flying into a light

But your presence is so bright
Watch out, flies!

You will end up fried
Find the calm lake once more

Swim in the waters of stillness
Everyone is here with you

Always with presence and love
Share the gift to the world.
