That Time I Peed My Pants in October

Itzu Romero

The school day is finally over
The kindergarteners run
Loud noise and laughter
Louder than my thoughts
And this pressure
On my bladder

The fallen leaves
Crunch under my feet
A sharp breeze on my face
What feels like forever
Only a couple of blocks

Need to make it home
This pressure swells
Rushing falls that want to be set free
The incoming tide
That rises with every step
Fight the fear and shame inside

Run to the house
For safety and shelter
But it is no use
Relief washes over me
The warmth spreads

Shock and humiliation
As my friend looks over
Eyes wide with judgment

I peed my pants
In October
