Time

Rosalyn Visser

Bright orange wings flutter
You stare
Enchanted by the pattern
You examine the black outline
The unique white spots

You stand still
Transfixed by its beauty
Then you watch as it flies away

Gone forever

You will the creature to come back
To show you its beauty again

You remain where you last saw it
Waiting for the sight of that brilliant orange
Waiting for a moment you know has already passed

Yet you stay
Facing the past
Turning your back on the future
